Suspect in Chicago murder arrested in LA

An alleged fugitive street-gang member suspected of killing a 15-year-old Chicago teen has been arrested in Los Angeles and is awaiting extradition to Illinois.

The FBI announced 24-year-old Martin Ruiz’s capture Wednesday.

A complaint filed in federal court says the Chicago man is a suspected member of the Latin King’s LaRaZa gang. It says his nickname is Garbage.

Ruiz is accused of fatally shooting Jamie Ruvalcaba on a Chicago street in August. It doesn’t provide details, including a possible motive.

The Circuit Court of Cook County issued a warrant for his arrest on first-degree murder charges in February.

The FBI says Ruiz was identified by Los Angeles police after a Friday traffic stop.

Neither the federal court docket nor the FBI announcement included a name of an attorney for Ruiz.
