Bat-swinging Chicago store owner fends off gunmen

A Chicago store owner furiously swinging a baseball bat has fended off a pair of robbers despite being shot.

The dramatic confrontation was captured on the gift shop’s surveillance video.

It shows Luis Quizhpe using a bat to clobber one of the robbers as the assailant holds a gun to the owner’s brother in law.

The gunman fired multiple shots at the owner of Quizhpe’s Gifts and Sports in Logan Square.

Quizhpe was shot once in the leg during Tuesday’s confrontation, but is in good condition.

Quizhpe and his brother-in-law also hurled a stool and a fire extinguisher during their counterassault.

From his hospital bed, he told the Chicago Sun-Times Wednesday that the gunshots sounded like the “Fourth of July” and that he “was so mad at” the intruders.
