Ill. Lt. Gov. Simon speaks in support of equal pay

Illinois Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon is underscoring the state's existing pay inequality based on gender.

Simon rallied Tuesday with other government officials at Daley Plaza to commemorate Equal Pay Day and advocate for pay equality for women.

Simon says Illinois women earn only 77 cents to every $1 men earn.

She says a woman with a college degree could lose up to $1.2 million throughout her lifetime because of the existing wage gap.

Simon says the state will be stronger when all workers receive equal pay for equal work.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle were among the officials who joined Simon on Tuesday.
