Conant keeps hitting

One day after scoring 15 runs in its Mid-Suburban League softball opener, Conant kept its bats hot in a 13-3 five-inning nonconference win over visiting Wheaton North.

The Cougars’ 14-hit attack received a home run and 5 RBI from sophomore Hailey Rothstein, who went 2-for-3.

Other multiple hitters for Conant (5-2) were sophomore Elisa Ambrose (3-for-4, 3 runs, double, RBI), junior Rachel O’Malley (3-4, 2 runs, RBI) and sophomore Dee Dee Durr (2-for-3, RBI). Junior Telly Hunter collected 4 RBI.

Sophomore Kim Zaucha (2-1) picked up the win by striking out one in 5 innings.

Schaumburg 6, St. Ignatius 5: Trailing 5-4 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, sophomore Elaine Walker (2-for-4, 3 RBI) belted a walk-off double to drive home the winning runs.

Other multiple hitters for the Saxons (7-1) were senior Hannah Kerr (2-for-3), senior Dana Giannelli (2-for-4, triple, 2 RBI), sophomore Shannon Felde (2-for-4, 2 doubles, RBI) and recent varsity call-up Paige Alt, a freshman who was 2-for-3 with 2 doubles.

Sophomore Roxanne Kakareka earned the win, striking out eight to improve to 2-0.

Mundelein 6, Fremd 2: Fremd slipped to 4-4 with the nonconference loss in Mundelein.
