CTA invests $20M for Green Line track improvements
The Chicago Transit Authority is putting $20 million worth of improvements into a train line that stretches into the west and south sides of the city.
The agency has announced the work on the Green Line is to help prepare the line to handle an increase in passengers due to a five-month reconstruction of the Red Line. The Red Line stops include Chicago’s Chinatown and U.S. Cellular Field, home of the White Sox.
The changes to the Green Line include a temporary expansion and track and signal work. That includes replacing rail ties, tracks and upgrading signal and switching equipment. Some of station improvements include a bus staging area and new signage and security cameras.
CTA officials say the changes will offer long term benefits too.
