Kincaid tactics sour her on his candidacy

I was intrigued by the sunny Kincaid signs around Hoffman Estates. The signs are catchy, but I wonder where funding comes from for such a polished campaign initiative. Like Mr. Kincaid, I generally believe that no one should hold a public office for such an extended period of time.

About a week ago I started receiving posters and other mail from the Kincaid campaign. The ads indicate that during Mr. McLeod's tenure on the village board, property taxes have risen 507 percent and that Hoffman Estates has $13 million in unfunded pension liability. The inference is that Mr. McLeod is responsible for each of these situations that are making life so miserable for Hoffman Estates residents.

I am surprised to see these accusations from someone who currently sits on our village board. I would have thought a sitting board member would be aware that our local village board has absolutely nothing to do with either the rise in our property taxes or the pension debt.

It is the county assessor, in fact, that determines our property tax rates. It is our fine state legislature that is responsible for the unfunded pension mess that affects the residents of the entire state.

Mr. Kincaid should be ashamed for using the same scurrilous tactics to get elected to a local public office that so many national candidates used this past November. People in this community and in the country are fed up with self serving politicians who lie and exaggerate to get themselves elected.

As I said, generally, I would agree that no one should hold office for such a long period of time. However, Kincaid's campaign tactics are much more offensive than anything Mr. McLeod may have voted for in 30 years. Therefore, Kincaid will not get my vote.
