Elk Grove rallies past Jacobs

Elk Grove rallied with 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pick up a 2-1 victory over visiting Jacobs on Wednesday in nonconference play.

The Grenadiers got a standout pitching performance from senior Mike Woods, who went 7 innings and allowed 5 hits and 1 unearned run.

Peter Arbov doubled in one of Elk Grove runs, and Matt Wary had the winning RBI for the Grens.

Woods struck out seven and walked three.

Senior Evan Blunk took the loss. He struck out six and gave up 6 hits in 6 innings. Jacobs scored its run in the first inning as Aaron Meciej had the RBI. Matt Hickey had the Golden Eagles’ only extra-base hit, a double.

Maine West 6, Hoffman Estates 2: Visiting Maine West scored 4 runs in the fifth inning to break open what had been a tie game in a nonconference victory.

Justin Mustari allowed 1 hit through 5 innings to earn the victory for the Warriors (1-3).

Zach Hommowun doubled for Hoffman Estates (0-3).

Glenbard East 6, Prospect 1: Welby Malczewski, AJ Compton, Zach Tuszak and Zach Smith combined to limit the visiting Rams to 7 hits, but the Knights’ defense committed 6 errors in a nonconference loss.

Glenbard West 6, Conant 1: Conant kept it close until visiting Glenbard West scored twice in the sixth and seventh in nonconference play.

Glenbard North 11, Fremd 1 (5): Junior standout Matt Albin got the win for the visiting Panthers, who had a 4-run second inning and 6-run fifth.

Marcus Middlebrook and Andrew Stark doubled for the Vikings.

Deerfield 10, Buffalo Grove 1: Alexander Horwitz and Matt Kollada each doubled three times, and Horwitz pitched 4 innings of 4-hit ball as the visiting Warriors won in nonconference play.

Libertyville 9, Palatine 9: The visiting Pirates went ahead with a 2-run rally in the top of the sixth, but Libertyville answered with 3 of its own in the bottom half to go ahead by a run. Palatine salvaged a tie by scoring once more in the top of the seventh.

Jarrod Juskiewicz doubled and drove in 3 runs for Palatine. Matt Saltess also had 3 RBI, while Zach Serna had 3 hits and Chris Macahon doubled.

Glenbrook South 7, Schaumburg 4: The visiting Titans plated 3 runs in each of the first two innings in nonconference play at Schaumburg. Ryan Woloszyk and Dylan Roskin doubled for the Saxons.
