Blackhawks acquire center Handzus from Sharks

The Blackhawks have acquired veteran center Michal Handzus from the San Jose Sharks for a fourth-round draft pick.

The Hawks had been looking for a center other than Jonathan Toews who could win faceoffs and Handzus wins them at a better than 55 percent clip.

Handzus, 36, appeared in eight games with the Hawks in 2006-07 with his season ending early because of a torn ACL in his knee. He signed a four-year contract with Los Angeles the following summer.

Handzus has a $2.5 million cap hit but will be an unrestricted free agent after the season.
