Schaumburg hosts walk to end brain cancer May 5

WGN News Anchor Jackie Bange will emcee the Michael Matters 5K Stadium Walk to End Brain Cancer on Sunday, May 5 at Schaumburg Boomers Stadium, 1999 S. Springinsguth Road in Schaumburg.

Registration will begin at 11 a.m., with the walk scheduled to start at noon. The Llamas band is scheduled to perform, and the event also will feature free raffle prizes and Kids’ Zone activities. The Michael Matters Foundation was founded in honor of Michael P. Schostock, who succumbed to a glioblastoma brain tumor in July 2012. About a month after turning 50, he began having difficulty recalling words and remembering past incidents. Shortly thereafter, he was diagnosed with the inoperable, advanced malignant tumor and died 15 months later.
