Crystal Lake South’s Hall throws no-hitter

Crystal Lake South’s Tyler Hall fired a five-inning no-hitter Friday as the Gators’ baseball team defeated Machesney Park Harlem 15-0 in its season opener.

Hall struck out 5 and walked none.

Troy Bittenbender (4-for-4, 3 RS, 3B, RBI), Tom Gaede (2-for-3, 4 RS, 2 doubles, 2 RBI), Jake Bigos (3-for-4, 3 RS, 2 doubles, 4 RBI), Casey Oliver (4-for-4, 3 RBI) and Max Meitzler (2-for-3, RS, 3 RBI) led the CL South offense.

Jacobs 9, Grant 7: After five lead changes, the Golden Eagles claimed victory in their season opener. Jon Berndt scored on an error to give Jacobs the lead for good. Ben Murray was 2-for-5 with a home run and 4 RBI for the Eagles, while Greg Sidor (2-for-4, 2B), Aaron Meciej (2-for-3, RBI), Grant Kate (2B, RBI) and Tim Hubner (RBI) also contributed. Jake Jemmi picked up the win in relief.
