Tazewell County man convicted in methadone deaths

By

PEKIN, Ill. -- A 19-year-old Tazewell County man has been convicted in the methadone deaths of two other men.

The Pekin Daily Times reports that Circuit Judge Kevin Galley on Thursday convicted Daughlton Calvin of two homicide counts for providing the prescription painkiller to the men, who died within a day of each other last May.

Nineteen-year-old Cody Schillinger of Morton and 22-year-old Travis Whiteman of Manito drank doses of methadone that Calvin allegedly stole from a woman with whom he lived.

The judge said Calvin also might have died if Schillinger had not raced him to a Peoria hospital when he showed overdose symptoms shortly after both ingested the drug.

Schillinger refused treatment.

Calvin faces up to 30 years in prison for each count at his June 11 sentencing.
