Holy Family Teens--Believing and Belonging Present the Passion Play

A 15-year tradition continues at Holy Family Parish, Inverness, on Good Friday. Each year, a group of talented teens recreate Christ's Passion. “While the story itself is the cornerstone of Christianity, there is something about seeing over 60 teens perform the ‘greatest story ever told' that is especially touching and powerful,” states Judy Klingner, Director and Fremd High School Drama teacher.

“I am so proud of these young people, states Fr. Terry Keehan, Pastor. They bring such energy, enthusiasm and commitment to our entire parish. This production in particular has become such an important part of Holy Family's Good Friday services. It is such a visible sign of how our teens add so much to Holy Family's vitality and vision.”

This year's cast comes from eleven different schools, and have practiced weekly since January. John McHugh, Fremd High School senior, playing Jesus states, “We have really become such a close knit group. We are all committed and we all want to be here.” Asked about playing the lead role, McHugh admitted that he was initially a bit hesitant. “I'm really challenged to do well because it is such an honor, and such an important part of my own faith.”

The Passion Play is just one of the ways Holy Family involves teens. “We really get to know these teens and address their spiritual needs while also celebrating their many gifts throughout the parish,” states Denise Logan, Director of Teen Faith. Colin Collette, Producer of the Passion Play and Director of Worship agrees, “In so many ways, the teens at Holy Family are leaders in evangelizing. Their amazing level of faith and commitment add so much to our community. Our teens are truly treasured members of Holy Family.”

In the words of Denise Logan, “Believing, belonging and participating are key components to Holy Family's Teen Ministry.”
