The Spartans scored twice in the bottom of the seventh, winning the game on Jack Petrandoís 2-run single with no outs. Josh Croci tripled home 2 runs in the fifth inning as part of a 5-run inning. Dan Zurawski picked up the win in relief.
Benet 9, Waubonsie Valley 0:
Pat Peterson started Benetís victory with 4 innings of 1-hit ball, and Jonathan Kruppe and Robert Haemmerle closed out the game by allowing no hits. Ryan Raupach tripled and drove in 2 runs for the Redwings (1-2). Jake Bennema had the lone hit for the Warriors (0-2).
Glenbard North 3, Glenbard West 2:
Trailing 2-1 heading to the top of the seventh, the Panthers (1-0) scored twice to pull out the victory. Matt Albin singled home the first run and Matt Stencel scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. Glenbard West (0-1) scored 2 runs in the bottom of the first inning when Luke Domask came home on a wild pitch and Spencer Refer scored on a passed ball. Glenbard North answered with Brett Consittís RBI single in the top of the second. Consitt got the win in relief of starter Matt Frawley, who went 5 innings.
West Chicago 5, Tinley Park 1:
Eight different players had hits and five different players drove in runs for the Wildcats (2-2). Mike Zajac struck out seven over 6 innings to earn the win.
Metea Valley 7, Plainfield East 3:
Tamal Kumar and Mike Fitzgerald had 3 hits apiece and Michael Mooney doubled and drove in 3 runs for the Mustangs (1-0). Max Custer picked up the win with 5 innings of work.
Neuqua Valley 12, St. Benedict Academy (Tenn.) 1:
Drew Sterioti and Matt Wollnik each drove in 3 runs for the Wildcats (3-2), who scored 4 runs to end the game in the sixth. Jonathan Vlk won on the mound. The Wildcats closed their trip to Tennessee with a 5-2 loss to Covington.
Montini 10, Lisle 3:
The Broncos (1-0) followed a 4-run first inning with a 2-run second en route to a victory over Lisle (0-1). Chris Bartosz went 4-for-5 while Rhett Wojkovich and Eddie Bava had 2 hits apiece. Tyler Quick pitched a 3-hitter. Cliff Krause, Kevin Coppin and Adam Grego drove in runs for Lisle.
Hinsdale Central 6, Glenbard South 3:
In the season opener for both teams, the Red Devils broke out to a 5-0 lead in the sixth inning. Sophomore Chris Botsoe went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI. Tom Concklin went the distance to earn the win. Zach Smith, Will Cornwell, Nick Yangas and Will Anderson had 2 hits apiece for Glenbard South.
Wheaton North 6, Overton (Tenn.) 0:
The Falcons (2-1) closed strong on their Tennessee trip as Doug Hayes pitched 6 innings of 4-hit ball. Tom Cassier went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jeff Harper and Johnny Peltz also drove in runs.
WW South 7, Hersey 1:
Brett Streubing pitched 5 innings and Ryan La Fleur pitched the final 2 innings of a combined 4-hitter for the Tigers (2-1). Eric Giltz and Mike Saccucci each had 2 hits. Baylor Holmes drove in 2 runs.
Downers South 4, Chatwood (Colo.) 3:
The Mustangs (2-2) finished their trip to Arizona with a come-from-behind victory. They trailed 3-2 in the top of the third when winning pitcher Zach Taylor blasted a 2-run homer to put Downers South ahead to stay. Alex Galik went 2-for-3 with a homer and 2 RBI.
York 5, Notre Dame 3:
