Elgin CC splits again in Florida

The Elgin Community College baseball team ended its spring trip with a split against Southeastern CC of Nebraska Wednesday in Winter Haven, Fla.

The Spartans won 3-2 and lost 18-7.

In the win, Victor Saldana’s single drove home John Menken, who had walked and stolen second, with the winning run in the eighth inning.

Robert Smith had 2 hits including a double for ECC.

Bobby Thorson picked up the win for the Spartans, going 7 innings and allowing just 2 hits with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk. Jake Perkins came on for the save.

In the loss, Thorson and Sam Komel had doubles for ECC while Menken had two RBI and Smith drove in a run.

Andy Kovarik was the losing pitcher for the Spartans, who finished the trip 5-4 and come home to play Prairie State on Saturday.
