Students receive scholarships to attend Marmion Academy

Ten eighth-graders have been awarded academic scholarships to attend Marmion Academy next fall. Scholarships were awarded based on performance on the entrance exam held in December 2012, in which 198 eighth-grade boys participated. The following have received scholarships as members of Marmion’s class of 2017.

Ryan Callahan, son of Michael Callahan of North Aurora, received the Edwin and Laurina Witting Memorial Scholarship. Ryan attends Holy Cross in Batavia.

David Farrell, son of Greg and Jeri Farrell of Sugar Grove, received the Rev. Peter Enderlin OSB Memorial Alumni Association Scholarship. David attends Kaneland Herter Middle School in Sugar Grove. He is the grandson of Gerald Nickels, Class of 1950.

Nicholas Grant, the son of Jeffrey and Estelle Grant of St. Charles, received the Philip and Marilyn Schnell Scholarship. Nicholas attends Thompson Middle School in St. Charles.

Jonathan Ingoglia-Powers, the son of Tracey Ingoglia-Powers of South Elgin, received the Arthur J. Weisbrook Memorial Scholarship. Jonathan attends Haines Middle School in St. Charles.

Andrew Lifka, son of Dr. David and Susan Lifka of Aurora, received the Rev. Sebastian Crow OSB Memorial Alumni Association Scholarship. Andrew attends St. Rita of Cascia School in Aurora. He is the grandson of Robert Miller, Class of 1959. Other Marmion graduates include his brothers Ryan, Class of 2010, and Eric, Class of 2014, as well as his uncles Francis Miller, Class of 1951, and Richard Miller, Class of 1964.

Jonathan Liu, son of Chang Liu and Juliet Niu of DeKalb, received the Dr. Alfred G., Class of 1932, and Mary A. Chione Memorial Scholarship. Jonathan attends St. Mary School in Sycamore.

Timothy Wisdom, son of Dan, Class of 1985, and Beth Ann Wisdom of Aurora, received the Rev. Alcuin Deck OSB Memorial Alumni Association Scholarship. Timothy attends Fischer Middle School in Aurora. He is the nephew of Rev. Richard Wisdom, Class of 1972, Larry Wisdom, Class of 1974, David Wisdom, Class of 1976, and Fr. Andrew Carl Wisdom, Class of 1979.

Riley Wise, son of Vance and Heather Wise of Elburn, received the Gussye Deck Memorial and Joseph Kochevar Memorial Scholarship. Riley attends St. Peter School in Geneva.

Stephen Zimmer, son of Stephen and Dr. Jacqueline Zimmer Jr. of Geneva, received the Rev. Charles Reichenbacher OSB Scholarship. Stephen attends St. Peter School in Geneva.

Anthony Zolfo, son of Michael and Jill Zolfo of North Aurora, received the Rev. Joseph Battaglia OSB Memorial Scholarship. Anthony attends Annunciation BVM School. He is the brother of Michael, Class of 2011, and Patrick, Class of 2015.

These scholarships have a total value of $155,200 over four years. The three Alumni Associations Scholarships are awarded based on exam performance but are restricted to sons, grandsons, nephews or brothers of Marmion alumni. A financial-assistance program is available for students not selected for scholarships. During the 2012-2013 school year, 20 percent of Marmion students are receiving need-based tuition assistance totaling more than $340,800.
