Ryndak injured in Downers North triumph

Elaine Heflin struck out 15 in a 2-hitter, but No. 7 Downers Grove North's season-opening 5-0 win at Nazareth on Tuesday might have come at a cost.

Purdue-bound junior Dale Ryndak hurt her knee rounding third base running the bases and will have an MRI taken Thursday with results expected early next week.

Carolyn Nojiri went 3-for-3 with an opposite-field homer and 3 runs batted in for Downers Grove North.

Montini 12, Northside Prep 2:

Winning pitcher Lauren Trojnar struck out eight and at the plate went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases for the Broncos in their season opener at the Rosemont Dome. Morganne Evans also went 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored and 2 steals for Montini, which had 10 as a team.
