St. Edward High in Elgin announces Tidal Wave honorees

St. Edward Central Catholic High School in Elgin recently announced the 2013 Tidal Wave honorees. This black-tie event is the 24th annual Auction/Dinner Dance and includes alumni, family and friends of St. Edward High School.

The event raises funds for needy student scholarships, technology improvements and capital improvements. Elgin Police Chief Jeff Swoboda and his wife Laura are the honorary chairmen of the event which will be held April 27 at the Pheasant Run in St. Charles.

St. Edward Alumnus of the Year is Gary McGrath, Class of 1970. He is being recognized for his dedication to education along with his commitment to St. Edward High School and the greater Elgin community.

The St. Gregory the Great Award is given to a faculty/staff member that exemplifies excellence in education. This year’s recipient is science teacher Michael Bimmerle, Class of 1976.

The Loyal Order of St. Edward Award is given to a nongraduate who has made an extraordinary contribution to St. Edward High School. Winning the award this year is Josephine Klapperich, director of volunteers.

The Patron of the Year Award is given to a company that has been especially kind to the school through a service.

Winning the award this year is Bill Martens, Class of 1996, along with a posthumous award for his father Robert Martens, Class of 1970, who died in 2010. Cardinal Moving Services and Transport Direct Express have provided 24 years of service to Tidal Wave.
