Anti-Bullying Workshop for Girls
Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois (GSNI) is looking for girls in grades 4–8 to take a stand against bullying at its Be Part of the Change workshop on Saturday, April 6, from 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m., at Hosanna! Lutheran Church, 36 W 925 Red Gate Road, in St. Charles. Girls will take part in hands-on activities such as making a peacemaker box and bracelet, showing love on a heart wall, and receive instruction in self-defense from trainer Kevin Engstrom. Breakout sessions for adults will be led by community experts where parents can safely discuss cyber bullying and how to identify if a child is a bully.
The workshop will also feature the local film premiere of I Am the Music: A Rock Operetta. The anti-bullying movie features a cast of over 35 Girl Scouts, ages 7–17, from 23 cities around northern Illinois. The film takes on the tough subject of cyber bullying, cliques and mean girls. GSNI partnered with nationally renowned filmmakers at Comtech Corporation to generate a video that raises awareness of how to stop bullying with the acceptance and friendship found in the Girl Scout Movement.
The workshop is open to all girls in grades 4–8 grades. Cost is $5 per girl, if registered by March 29; $7 per girl at the door. There is no fee for adults, but adults are required to stay for the entirety of the event.
