COD, Illinois Department of Employment Security Partner on New Lombard Center

College of DuPage and the Illinois Department of Employment Security Office in Lombard are partnering on the new College of DuPage Career and Training Center that will help the unemployed and underemployed with their short- and long-term career goals.

College of DuPage President Robert L. Breuder said the partnership is a perfect fit during a ribbon cutting March 19 at the new center, located at 837 S. Westmore Ave. in Lombard. Click here for photos from the event.

“The Illinois Department of Employment Security gives people hope and an opportunity to find employment, and the new Career and Training Center will make it easier for people who are seeking employment to find their way back to education,” Dr. Breuder said. “This is the perfect place for us to extend the central campus of College of DuPage. I know it will be a great success.”

College representatives are available at the Center between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays to provide information on training and educational courses offered through COD, including general Admissions fee application waivers with appropriate documentation; information about the offerings at the College's regional centers, located in Addison, Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Naperville and Westmont; access to job postings through Illinois Job Link; and service coordination with a workNet DuPage Career Center counselor.

The Center also hosts informational forums twice every month on a variety of topics, from admissions and financial aid to the new Commercial Driver's License training program authorized by the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). College of DuPage is an approved WIA trainer for more than 100 programs, and financial assistance is available through WIA for eligible students.

Julie Marlatt, College of DuPage Coordinator of Admissions & Outreach, and Deb Jeffay, College of DuPage Admissions Representative, initially worked with IDES to secure space. A campus-wide committee is responsible for the information and services offered at the new Career and Training Center.

“Our ultimate goal is to have a consistent College of DuPage presence at the Lombard employment office to help the community get back to work,” Jeffay said.
