Throw a Blackhawks jersey on just about anything these days and it's bound to be popular.
That was no doubt the case with Carl Thompson's photo of the 12-foot-tall snowman-turned-hockey-player he helped build last month in his front yard.
The Gilberts man's entry ended up the top vote-getter online in the Daily Herald's 2013 Winter Photo Contest.
Thompson created the white giant — complete with Hawks jersey and hockey sticks — with his children Logan, Hunter and Whitney and their friends Trevor Travis McHone, Vincenzo Nico Pellegrino and Alex Sokolowski.
Thompson, whose photo beat out more than 120 other submissions, will receive a two-night stay and $100 gift certificate at the Abbey Resort in Wisconsin. A randomly chosen winner won a stay as well.
He said his kids were even more excited about the contest than the snowman, which has been reduced to a large mound and plastic nose.
“They were watching the contest (standings) religiously that last night of voting,” Thompson said. “The whole thing was a lot of fun.”
