Strike up the Band

The world-renowned Chicago Brass Band presents a concert on Sunday, April 7 at 2:00 p.m. at Gary United Methodist Church, 224 N. Main Street, Wheaton. The concert benefits the Wheaton Band Festival. All proceeds from the concert go to support The 14th Annual Wheaton Band Festival, scheduled for July 19 and 20 in Memorial Park in Wheaton. Here's a case of one band supporting another. In these tough economic times, collaborative efforts keep the arts alive.

The Chicago Brass Band maintains a rigorous schedule, but made time for this benefit concert. In April they head to Ohio to compete in the North American Brass Association Championships. Then in July, just prior to the Wheaton Band Festival, The Chicago Brass Band heads to Holland for the North American Brass Band Championships. The prestigious invitation puts the Chicago Brass Band in the International spotlight. The Chicago Brass Band, under the direction of Dr. Colin Holman, always makes time for the Wheaton Band Festival.

The Wheaton Band Festival is not a regular concert. It offers the audience a chance to hear a variety of bands in the same place at the same time. And it's FREE. Top bands from the Chicagoland area fill Memorial Park with trills and thrills. Participating bands present a one-hour concert, and then the next band rotates in. The music varies from group to group, as families picnic or just pulls up their lawn chairs to enjoy the music. All this takes funding, so The Chicago Brass Band has stepped up to present a Benefit Concert specifically to support the Wheaton Band Festival.

Don't miss the chance to hear the Chicago Brass Band on Sunday, April 7 at 2:00 p.m. at Gary United Methodist Church, 224 N. Main Street in Wheaton. The concert is FREE but all proceeds will benefit the Wheaton Band Festival. For more information go to www.wheatonbandfestival.org or call 630-260-1288.
