Not exactly soccer weather for Fire practice

The weather forecast for Sunday calls for temperatures in the mid-30s and a chance of snow — a great way to welcome a team from Los Angeles.

Training in this weather hasn’t been fun for the Fire, however.

“I wish we were in warm-weather training,” Fire coach Frank Klopas said. “It’s not so easy with the wind 30-40 mph and it’s 18 below (wind chill). It’s very difficult. You have to do it, get out there.”

With starting goalkeeper Sean Johnson called into duty with the U.S. national team for its World Cup qualifiers, Paolo Tornaghi will get the start Sunday against Chivas USA (4 p.m., Channel 50).

“It’s freezing, it’s really freezing,” the Italian goalkeeper said. “It feels like minus-8. I’ve never played in temperatures like this.”
