Three Palatine residents — a grandmother, her daughter and her grandson — are dead after a car crash near Sycamore Thursday morning, according to police.

The DeKalb County sheriff's office said the daughter, Jenny Perez, 19, was driving a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant north on Peace Road near Freed Road at 11:19 a.m. when her vehicle traveled into the oncoming lane of traffic for an unknown reason.

Police say Perez was in the car with her mother, Angelina Felix, 57, and Perez's 2-year-old son, Roberto Perez, who lived with her. All three had seat belts on.

When the car went into the oncoming lane of traffic it was hit by a truck driven by Reid Anderson, 27, of Sycamore, who was traveling south on Peace Road, police said. He was uninjured, but all three passengers in the Galant were declared dead at the scene by the DeKalb County coroner's office.

Jenny Perez's sister Lupe Perez said she had heard that the tires of the truck were on top of her sister's car.

A shocked Lupe Perez said she just can't believe what happened.

"Their little kid was only 2 years old," she said.

She said her sister had big plans. A graduate of Fremd High School, Jenny Perez was attending Harper College with the intention of becoming a nurse and was planning on marrying the father of her child, who works at a warehouse, in the summer. Perez was working at a grocery store in Palatine.

Lupe said her sister was excited about her future profession. She and another sister, Maribel, were in the same class at Harper. The classwork included putting in time working at Friendship Village in Schaumburg.

Lupe said her mother, Angelina, came to the United States from Mexico. She said her mother stayed at home and took care of the grandchildren.

Roberto, she said, "was always happy. Everybody loved to play with him. He was so fun. He loved to share with others. He was very smart."

She said funeral arrangements are pending.

"We're still in shock," she said.

The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash should call the DeKalb County sheriff's office at (815) 895-2155.
