Junior Achievement brings 'JA in a Day' to Des Plaines South School

Local officials recently visited South Elementary School in Des Plaines as part of the Junior Achievement (JA) in a Day Program. JA in a Day classes hosted at South School focused on financial literacy. The local JA Program includes students Kindergarten – Grade 12. The Program was designed to help facilitate a partnership between agencies/companies and local schools to educate and inspire students regarding success in the workplace. Des Plaines area Junior Achievement Coordinator Alia Asiaban and South School Principal Lori Poelking welcomed Des Plaines Acting Mayor Dick Sayad and City Clerk Gloria J. Ludwig into the Third Grade classroom where they discussed local government, careers and the value of goal setting as a means of success. “We really enjoyed the opportunity to share our experiences and time with our Des Plaines students,” Acting Mayor Dick Sayad commented. JA in a Day offers individuals the opportunity to share their experience and expertise with students. Volunteer instructors are sought. If you have a career experience you would like to share with young people, contact Junior Achievement Coordinator Alia Asiaban at aasiaban@jachicago.org or call her at 708-456-1400 (X282).
