Edwardsville edges Proviso East for third place

PEORIA, Ill. — Edwardsville’s Armon Fletcher hit 2 free throws with 10.6 seconds remaining to give the Tigers a 57-56 win against Proviso East in the Class 4A boys basketball third-place game Saturday at Carver Arena.

Proviso East’s Branden Jenkins had a chance to win the game for the Pirates, but his jumper rolled off the rim and Parrish McCullum’s putback was just after the buzzer.

Tre Harris led the Tigers (31-3) with 20 points. Garret Covington added 15 and Fletcher finished with 9 points and 12 rebounds.

Edwardsville controlled the first half, shooting 68.4 percent from the field and outrebounding Proviso East 17-6.

Southern Methodist signee Sterling Brown led the Pirates (29-5) with 16 points and 7 rebounds, Jenkins added 14 points and McCullum and Kalin Fisher chipped in 10 apiece.
