Lake Villa, IL . . . . .The Prince of Peace Catholic School LEGO® Robotics team “RoboPoP” has accepted an invitation to represent the State of Illinois at the North American FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) Open Championship tournament at LEGOLAND in Carlsbad, California. The team, comprised of 4th – 8th grade students from the Lake Villa Catholic grade school, competed in the Lake Zurich FLL Qualifier Tournament in December, receiving the Champion's Award as the overall top team. In winning the Regional Qualifier tournament, the team was invited to the Illinois State tournament in January. At the State tournament, the team finished 2nd overall among eighty teams competing, and scored the highest robot performance score in the State of Illinois. This year's Illinois tournaments included more than 350 teams statewide. This fantastic finish qualified the RoboPOP team for the North American FLL Open Championship Tournament at LEGOLAND May 17-19, 2013.

LEGO® Robotics provides a fabulous opportunity for team members to develop in math, science and technology subject areas while developing engineering, programming, research and presentation skills. The FLL program emphasizes the LEGO Core Values: team based thinking and effort, friendly competition, discovery and sharing. The team's three coaches and the Prince of Peace 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Colleen Case, will accompany the team's six girls and three boys to California.
