Hoffman Estates fire department receives grant

The Hoffman Estates Fire Department has been awarded a federal grant to help pay for operations and safety equipment.

The department will receive $164,960 through the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters grant program to support and improve its capability to respond to fires.

Response equipment, personal protective equipment, training and vehicles have been purchased by fire departments that have received money from the grant program in the past.

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin and U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth helped enact the programs that provide the grant.
