Services set for slain baby

A funeral will be held next week for a 6-month-old Chicago girl killed in a shooting that police believe targeted her father.

Services for Jonylah Watkins’ are to be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the New Beginnings Church in the South Side neighborhood of Woodlawn.

The girl was killed by a gunman who ambushed her father while he was changing the infant’s diaper in a parked minivan.

The father, 29-year-old Jonathan Watkins, was seriously wounded.

A family spokesman, the Rev. Corey Brooks, told the Chicago Sun-Times that Watkins is cooperating with police from his hospital bed but doesn’t know who shot him.

Watkins is a gang member with a long criminal history.

Brooks says if Watkins knew who shot him “they would be arrested by now.”
