MLK and Civil Rights: The Personal Story of Loy and Linda Williams
Wednesday, March 27 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM in the Meeting Room at the Geneva Library, 127 James Street, Geneva, IL.
Loy and Linda Williams were in college and graduate school in Dallas, Texas in the 1960's. They volunteered with Dr. King's Southern Christian Leadership Conference, registering voters in Dallas and participating in other civil rights activities. Loy had the opportunity to meet Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and participate in the Selma to Montgomery voter registration march. Loy and Linda will speak from their very personal experiences, about the state of race relations in the south in the 1960's and efforts to bring about change.
Linda has a Master's Degree in Special Education from NIU and a Masters in Educational Administration from Loyola. Her undergraduate degree in German and History is from Southern Methodist University. In July 2000, Linda retired after 34 years in public education. For the past 20 years she was a Special Education Administrator in St. Charles.
Loy has a Masters of Social Work from the University of Iowa, a Masters of Theology from Southern Methodist University and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Southern Methodist University. He has practiced as a marriage, family and individual therapist, as a school social worker and Executive Director at Tri City Family Services.
Loy and Linda have been married for 47 years this August and are parents of a son, Carl who is practicing law on the Island of St. Thomas in the USVI. They are currently semi-retired, spending time here in Geneva and also traveling. Their interests also include music/theater, Geneva Learners and tutoring.
Join us for the third presentation in the Geneva Library Foundation's new 2012-2013 Speaker Series. The series will host a variety of different speakers, all of which will be topics of interest to the Geneva community.
The evening will include a short reception, introduction of the Geneva Library Foundation, the presentation of the speaker, and a question and answers session. This is a free event.
