The Round Lake Area Exchange Club has announced the February hometown hero is U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Joshua Maas of Round Lake.

Maas attended Round Lake High School for three years, where he was a three-sport athlete (football, wrestling and tennis) and on the honor roll. He graduated in 2009 from Wilmot High School.

Maas, who has been a Marine for almost two years, is a tank driver stationed in Afghanistan.

All heroes receive a "Hanging with the Heroes" care package delivered with a personalized "Hanging with the Heroes" T-shirt (donated by Artrageous of Hainesville), a piece of home and letters from Round Lake Area Unit District 116 students.

Maas' package will also be filled with tuna, peanut butter, beef jerky, snacks and warm socks, thanks to the support of this month's sponsor, Bringing Everyone's Strengths Together.

The Round Lake Area Exchange Club will present a plaque to Maas and his family at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Panera Bread in Round Lake Beach.

Any and all military personnel serving overseas or in the USA from any of the Round Lake communities, Hainesville, Fox Lake or Ingleside, qualify for the program.
