West Chicago Sister Cities Organization Celebrates Students' Upcoming Trip to Taufkirchen (Vils), Germany

West Chicago, Illinois: March 6, 2013 - West Chicago Sister Cities, an organization that "fosters peace through culture, education and people to people exchanges", recently celebrated the upcoming trip of the Community High School District 94 jazz band to West Chicago's Sister City Taufkirchen (Vils), Germany with a pizza party thrown in the students' honor. The send-off was in anticipation of the March 21, 2013 departure of the students, who will have an opportunity to play at the German middle school/high school and to visit with students there. They will also perform for the community with the local Swing Orchestra, which visited West Chicago in 2005.

For some of the students from District 94, this will be their first trip out of the United States, for others it will be their first trip to Europe. Among the towns they will be seeing on their trip are Salzburg, Neuschwanstein, Munich, Dachau and of course, Taufkirchen (Vils). Many students shared their excitement and thoughts of traveling abroad with members of West Chicago Sister Cities during the send-off party. Living with a family, getting attached and close to them; discovering and experiencing a different culture and trying to communicate; and trying new food and taking an airplane, were a few of the things mentioned.

When they return, members of the jazz band will attend the April 4, 2013 meeting of West Chicago Sister Cities, which is held at Pal Joey's Restaurant, located at 440 E. Roosevelt Road, Suite #120, West Chicago from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m., to share their experiences of the trip.
