Midwestern Students Going Bald for St. Baldrick's Foundation

Midwestern University students are joining a worldwide movement to go bald in an effort to raise awareness and funds to battle childhood cancer. On Monday, March 11th, at 7 PM more than 50 Midwestern students have volunteered to have their heads shaved at Ballydoyle Irish Pub in downtown Downers Grove as part of a St. Baldrick's event.

Already, Midwestern students have raised more than $12,800 to support the St. Baldrick's Foundation, a charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers. Student raise money with the guarantee of getting their heads shaved on this evening in sympathy of children who are suffering from the harsh effects of cancer treatments. According to the American Cancer Society, cancer is the second leading cause of death in children, exceeded only by accidents.

Community members are encouraged to lend their support the night of the event or by making a donation at http://www.stbaldricks.org/events/mwu3rdannualstbaldricksday.

This marks the third year that a group of the Midwestern students have organized a St. Baldrick's event. The Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA) chapter on the Midwestern campus is primarily responsible for the event and drumming up support from their fellow students.
