Defendant won’t testify at NYC cannibal-plot trial

NEW YORK — The defense has notified the judge that a New York police officer charged with conspiring to kill and eat women will not testify at his Manhattan trial.
The defense for Officer Gilberto Valle began Tuesday with the showing of a videotaped deposition of a Russian man who runs a fetish website.

Valle has insisted through his lawyers that he was fantasizing on the Internet and intended no harm. The government claims he was preparing with others to kidnap, kill and eat six women, including his wife.
