On Feb. 21, the Daily Herald had a very interesting column by George Will on solitary confinement. In the article, Mr. Will references Illinois Senator Dick Durbinís concern over the psychological consequences affecting inmates who must endure solitary confinement.
So much so that Senator Durbin is launching some kind of study.
The Feb. 22 Daily Herald mentions that Senator Durbin is off to Bahrain, Djibouti and Uganda to meet with U.S. military leaders. As the No. 2 ranking Senate Democrat (and an eye-popping 30-year political career in this role) Mr. Durbin wields an incredible amount of power.
The Democratic-controlled Senate has not passed a budget in nearly four years. Coincidentally, thatís about the same time period our present Commander and Chief Spender (President Obama) has been in office adding trillions to our nationís debt.
Where is the senatorís leadership when we really need it? On the flight home from Africa, maybe Senator Durbin can find a pencil and the back of an envelope and start crunching some long overdue numbers.
Iím not in solitary confinement, but Iím going crazy nonetheless watching the senate do absolutely nothing regarding their responsibility of creating an annual budget. Senator Durbin appears to be more concerned with criminals than his constituents. Senator Durbin?
