Local Trivia Bee Helps Change Lives

St. Charles, IL-Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley is hosting its 14th annual Trivia Bee Saturday, March 23 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Q Center, 1405 N. Fifth Ave, St. Charles.

The Bee offers a lively trivia contest, silent auction, raffles, musical entertainment, and prizes. The theme this year is Trivia Bee - The Musical. Questions will span Broadway musicals and much more. Three-person teams will compete in three rounds of questions before the winners are announced. The champions will receive trophies and tickets donated by Fox Valley Repertory, second place winners will receive ice cream cakes donated by St. Charles Dairy Queen and third place winners will receive movie tickets donated by Classic Cinemas. So far, thirty teams have registered to compete.

A silent auction will also be held. Items include a two- night stay at Grand Bear Lodge in Utica, Illinois donated by Wine Sergi, use of the Kane County Cougars VIP Suite, a $500 whitening package donated by Geneva Family Dental, White Sox tickets, 3-month membership at Delnor Health and Wellness, tickets to Fermilab Arts Series performances, a Kindle Fire HD donated by Logon Group, and many other gifts donated by local businesses and individuals. New this year is the Fantasy Bee. People who answer trivia questions on entry forms will have a chance to win a $200 "Dinner and a Show" package courtesy of Kane County Chronicle including two tickets for Ides of March and Herman's Hermits at Paramount Theatre and a $100 Wok 'n Fire gift card.

Proceeds from this year's event will help hundreds of adults in the Fox Valley area learn to read, write, understand, and speak English through free one-to-one tutoring from Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley (LVFV). The program is accredited by ProLiteracy, the largest non-governmental organization of adult basic education and literacy programs in the world. Only 400 out of 1,200 ProLiteracy America affiliates have achieved this designation. LVFV has helped thousands of people achieve greater success in life through adult literacy since it was established in 1986.
