Deadline March 2 to be Irish Princess in annual parade

The 2013 Thom McNamee St. Patrick's Day parade committee is in search of a Parade Princess and her Royal Court.

New this year, they are accepting applications for the "Irish Princess" position. They will honor a young lady, age 10-14, for her involvement in the community. If you know any young ladies who would like to be the "Irish Princess" for this year's parade, have her send in an application.

The Princess must be a female, age 10-14 years old and must be a resident of Dundee Township.

The parade will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16, in downtown East Dundee. It will start at Rosie O'Hare's Public House and end at Bandito Barney's Beach Club.

The Princess must arrive at the parade at 10 a.m.. The Princess will be provided with a costume and vehicle with driver for the parade.

To enter, write an essay (50-100 words) titled “How I Help My Community Be Green.” Describe why you think you would be a good candidate for Princess. Include any information about why St. Patrick's Day, Ireland or this parade is special to you. Include any information about your extra-curricular activities, community involvement or special accomplishments.

You do not need to be Irish or have Irish heritage to be eligible. Everybody is Irish on St. Patrick's Day!

Email your submission to Julie@deotech.com. Remember to include your contact information (name, phone number and email address) along with your age.

The deadline for submission is noon Saturday, March 2.

The parade committee will review the essays and make a selection. All entrants will receive a results email on Saturday, March 9. All entrants may march alongside the Princess in the parade as a member of her Royal Court. Boys ages 10-14 are welcome to join the Royal Court too. Remember to dress in a festive manner!
