Weather doesn't deter some teams

With the unpredictable weather these past weeks, Community Challenge teams got creative with their fitness routines. Though some chose to stay indoors, most teams found ways to mix some excitement into their new workout routines.

Members of Thin it to Win it from Addison stayed active indoors, participating in a bowling event, while Park View Fittest of Mundelein discovered weekly pickleball games can be a fun way to exercise.

Other teams decided to take advantage of the snow. Even though Salt Creek's Waist Management and Mission Slimpossible teams' plan to go sledding was rained out, Mike Kenefick and Mickey Weldon of Waist Management took a snowshoeing class.

One member of Bartlett Park District's Lifecenter Gang didn't let the weather stop him from going on a walk every morning "like the mailman." Another member from the same team went cross-country skiing.

With the flu, long car trips and busy schedules presenting the most frequent pitfalls, some teams admitted they had to overcome a rough start. Other teams acknowledged being "cranky" at first, as they swapped fruit for sugary snacks and homemade salads for fast-food lunches.

But most teams found renewed motivation when they stepped on the scale. The iFit Buddies of the Itasca Park District have lost a collective 27 pounds. The Wood Dale Warriors weighed in 30 pounds lighter. The Hoffman Estates Park District team is down 16 pounds, while Waist Management of Schaumburg has already lost 40 pounds.

Overall, the teams are checking in healthier and happier. Help your local team stay motivated by rooting for them on the Fittest Loser Facebook page -- your team spirit could help you win a prize from our weekly Facebook drawing.
