Glen Ellyn Church Holds Luminaria Service

Southminster Presbyterian Church in Glen Ellyn held a Luminaria Service on Sunday, February 17th in conjunction with the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. That morning, as the members entered the church, the sanctuary was lighted only by luminary bags with glow sticks. On each bag was the name of a person to be honored or remembered. The names were offered to God during worship and prayers were asked for a cure for cancer.

This was the second Luminaria Sunday at Southminster. The idea began during a Mission Ministry meeting, and developed into the first Luminaria Sunday during worship to honor/remember those who have been touched by cancer. An annual Luminaria Sunday is planned with the hope the event will not only spread to other congregations, but to help fund research for finding a cure.
