Trade food for library fines in March

AURORA -- The Aurora Public Library will conduct its semiannual Food for Fines drive March 1 through 31 at all locations. The drive also is held each November.

All library locations – Main, Eola Road Branch, West Branch, the Express Center and the Bookmobile – will accept one item of nonperishable food in payment for every $1 or increment of $1; up to $5 in fines per person.

More than 5,000 food items are donated by Aurora library patrons in a typical Food for Fines month. The program was instituted in 2000.

Only nonperishable, labeled items in cans that are not damaged, expired or rusty will be accepted (no glass jars please).

The food will be donated to the Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry.

Critically needed items include:

• Canned Fruits

• Breakfast Cereal (Hot or Cold)

• Spaghetti Canned Sauce

• Spaghetti Noodles

Commonly needed items are:

• Canned Vegetables

• Soup: canned or mixes

• Sides: mashed potatoes, Rice Sides

• Hamburger Helper, etc.

• Canned tuna or chicken

• Macaroni and cheese

• Rice

• Baked Beans

• Vegetable Oil

Non-food items needed are:

• Diapers (all sizes)

• Baby formula (Enfamil or Similac and their generics)
