Hanover Park apiary users can take beekeeping class

Anyone interested in keeping hives at the Hanover Park Community Apiary can sign up for a beginning beekeepers course from 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays starting Feb. 28 through April 1 at the Carol Stream Park District’s Simkus Recreation Center, 849 W. Lies Road.

The instructor, who manages hives for the village of Hanover Park and serves as chair of the Hanover Park Environmental Committee, will cover fundamental beekeeping skills and equipment, hive assembly and maintenance, honey harvesting, seasonal tasks and basic honeybee biology and behavior.

The cost is $50. Participants must be at least 16 years old. Register at csparks.org with course code 38266.
