Saint Viator freshman Andrea Renner of Lake Barrington joined an elite group last week when she was named to the girls' all-state hockey team by the Amateur Hockey Association of Illinois.
As a result, she was among the top 40 female hockey players -- including goalies, defensemen and forwards -- in the state to take the ice Feb. 4 for the girls high school all-state game at the Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville.
Renner plays forward for the Barrington Fillies, a club team that competes in the 15-team Metro Girls' Hockey League. After only 14 games, Andrea already has scored 25 goals, with 16 assists, and is ranked second in the league for her offensive output.
After the first half of the season, the Fillies have compiled a record of 10-4-0 and secured a spot in the Scholastic Cup bracket, which represents the top seven teams in the conference.
Andrea is one of four Fillies named to the team. All four players are forwards and, as a group, rank among the top five for goals and assists.
"The Fillies girls high school hockey organization is very proud of how hard these girls work for the success of our team," said Ruben Medina, director of the Fillies' program, "and how the entire league has recognized their on-the-ice effort."
