St. Charles Rotary awards scholarship

Submitted by St. Charles Noon Rotary Club

St. Charles Noon Rotary Club officers Scott Piner and Mark Nyman recently awarded a $2,500 check to Mary Kuhn to assist with her education expenses while attending the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn.

This is the third scholarship that Kuhn has received from the St. Charles Noon Rotary Club and with this award her scholarships have totaled $7,000.

Kuhn is a 2009 graduate of St. Charles East High School and is pursuing a public relations degree at St. Thomas.

The 51 members of St. Charles Noon Rotary Club are people of action for their community and the greater world needs. For example, this club has assisted in the building of a library and school in a rural area of Guatemala; sent emergency aid to Haiti; financially supported local nonprofits; and contributed funds to Rotary International’s goal of worldwide eradication of polio.

In addition, the club has provided more than $64,000 in local scholarships over the past six years. Rotary members are business and professional leaders who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.
