DUPAGE COUNTY—February is National Cancer Prevention Month and the DuPage County Health Department encourages residents to focus on what is most important to prevent cancer and get healthy.
Here are three simple steps from the Health Department to reduce your risk of cancer:
1. Choose mostly plant foods; limit red meat and avoid processed meat.
2. Be physically active every day for 30 minutes or more.
3. Aim to stay at a healthy weight throughout your life.
Notice anything about them? Such as how closely the advice for cutting cancer risk resembles advice for preventing other chronic diseases like heart disease and diabetes – not to mention getting in shape?
It’s true: these simple steps offer many different health benefits, and National Cancer Prevention Month is a good time to start putting them into action.
So this month especially, keep these three guidelines in mind and remember: It’s never too early and never too late to start making choices that improve your chances for good health (and good looks!) for 2013 and beyond.
