Hoffman Estates teen charged in home invasion, sex assault

A Cook County judge set bail at $100,000 Monday for a Hoffman Estates teen charged with assaulting a woman in her residence about 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Stephen Delgado, 19, of the 600 block of Bode Circle, was charged with home invasion and criminal sexual assault after authorities say he entered a woman’s home and began kissing and touching her as she slept on the living room couch.

Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Moe Ahmad said the woman woke up and her attacker threatened to kill her. She bit him and screamed, causing him to flee, Ahmad said.

Police recovered a sales receipt from the scene containing a partial debit card number. The officers matched the debit card number to Delgado, who was also identified through the store’s video surveillance and sales records, Ahmad said.

If convicted of home invasion, Delgado faces six to 30 years in prison. If convicted of sexual assault, he could face four to 15 years in prison.

Delgado next appears in court on March 1.
