Film shot in Elgin returns for premiere March 2

Blue Damen Pictures will share its newest film "Recalculating" with local audience first.

Blue Damen Pictures will be premiering their newest film "Recalculating" at the Elgin Marcus Cinema on Saturday March 2nd, 2013 starting at 2:00pm. The writer, director and members of the cast including Ron Dean and paralympian Katy Sullivan will be in attendance for a Q&A following the film. After the screening all attendees are invited to an after-party at the Elgin Tilted Kilt. Admission to each event will be $5 at the door.

"Recalculating", written by Jan Schumacher-Kaschner, tells the story of a father making a journey to reunite with his daughter after she was injured in a car accident. Under the guidance of his GPS he is able to come to terms with his guilt that drove them apart. The film was shot entirely in and around Elgin in May of 2012 and features landmark locations such as The Centre of Elgin, Provena Saint Joseph Hospital, The Elgin Public House, and Muirhead Farmhouse. "Recalculating" was produced thanks to John Steffen and the trustees of the Palmer Foundation who provided the grant that made it possible to make the film.

"Recalculating" is the second film by Blue Damen Pictures to take place in Elgin and features Chicago character actor Ron Dean in the lead role of "Tom". Ron Dean has appeared in such films as "The Dark Knight", "Cocktail", and "The Breakfast Club" and often jokes: "I've played a Chicago cop so many times I ought to be getting a pension."

The film also features Katy Sullivan, an accomplished actress as well as a US Paralympian who placed 6th in the 2012 London Games. She has appeared on television in such shows as "My Name Is Earl" and "Legit" and on the stage at the Goodman Theatre's production of "The Red Road".

Rounding out the cast is Elgin's own Pete Garlock, who, during the day, works for the Elgin Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.

This marks the second time Blue Damen Pictures produced a film in Elgin, the first being the mumblecore feature "Dark Before Dawn". As director Gwydhar Gebien notes "With [Dark Before Dawn] we were working in Elgin while trying to keep a low profile but with "Recalculating" we really worked WITH Elgin to get the community involved as much as we could. Both experiences were extremely positive. We look forward to building a stronger relationship with the city with each project."

"Recalculating" is a short film that is appropriate for all ages and will screen alongside a selection of Blue Damen Pictures short films including "The Visionary" which was a finalist at the 2009 Elgin Short Film Festival.

Blue Damen Pictures is a Chicago based film production company that provides opportunities for anyone with an interest in filmmaking to get hands-on experience in production. Blue Damen Picture expanded to include a team based in Los Angeles in early 2012.
