Between 2 and 6 inches of snow is expected to fall overnight Sunday and early Monday with snow showers lingering throughout the day, according to the advisory.

"Snowfall rates of up to 1 inch per hour may occur at times, leading to rapid snow accumulation on roadways," according to the advisory, with heaviest intensity for the Chicago area between 3 a.m. and 8 a.m. Monday.

The National Weather Service advised people to use extra caution when driving to work Monday morning.

"Snow will cause travel difficulties, including the Monday morning rush hour. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities."
