‘Old downtown’ also needs attention

text size: AAA

Doesn't our existing downtown deserve our next mayor's attention?

You wouldn't think so be reading Steve Lentz's Web page. The page, and his video, state "Our Village needs a new downtown and a place where people want to go." Well, what about the old downtown?

Nowhere is there a mention, not even a hint, of the needs of our existing business district. Does Mr. Lentz think that the businesses on Park, Hawley and Seymour Streets don't deserve his attention too? Is he going to ignore the empty store fronts while he waits for Cardinal Square?

Our next mayor shouldn't ignore the current problems. He shouldn't put all the village's eggs in the Cardinal Square basket.

Cardinal Square will not be completed for years and may not be profitable until sometime after that.

Our existing downtown businesses are paying taxes, providing jobs and serving Mundelein now. They should get the mayor's attention now.
