Launching a business and/or sustaining a satisfying career in the 21st Century can feel almost death-defying at times. Kelly Standing knows first-hand. She was struck by lightning while working against a deadline in a thunder storm. … She had her own intellectual property attributed to a competitor. … Someone hacked into her business bank account 19 times! And yet, she's still standing, still smiling.
What does she know that could help the rest of us land on our feet no matter what tries to knock us off our heels? Find out on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at the Batavia Women in Business (BWIB) luncheon. You'll learn how one funny, unflappable woman picks herself up time after time from what would defeat most of us.

While you may admire her resilience, you may not want to stand too close to Kelly Standing. She has been hit by a car, hanged from a tree and just missed a mass murder at her high school workplace. At 29, she came so close to dying, she went into the "Bright Light," but, again, emerged still Standing. She says her many brushes with death may have given her a greater sense of urgency about resilience.
"Too often we overlook the power we have to improve our own circumstances," said Standing. "We think things happen TO us, but they don't. We get to choose -- every minute of every day.
"No, we can't always go back and fix what we broke or get what someone didn't give us, but we can choose to live now, today, the way we'd like to be remembered," she continued. "We always have a choice. We can re-write our stories."
Kate Sullivan, co-chair of Batavia Women in Business and publisher of "Neighbors" magazine encourages you to attend the luncheon to hear Standing's amazing story.
"Batavia Women in Business works hard to find outstanding programs for our members," explained Sullivan. "Not only do we sponsor quality speakers, but this is one of the best opportunities to meet and network with other professional women in the Tri-Cities."
Copies of Standing's book "I'M STILL STANDING: How One Woman's Brushes with Death Taught Her How To Live" will be available. Normally $24.99, the hardcover book can be purchased at BWIB's luncheon for only $20.
Although BWIB focuses primarily on businesswomen, men are encouraged to expand their network as well by checking out the group. For more information about Batavia Women in Business, visit their website at www.bataviawib.com.
