While you may admire her resilience, you may not want to stand too close to Kelly Standing. She has been hit by a car, hanged from a tree and just missed a mass murder at her high school workplace. At 29, she came so close to dying, she went into the “Bright Light,” but, again, emerged still Standing. She says her many brushes with death may have given her a greater sense of urgency about resilience.
"Too often we overlook the power we have to improve our own circumstances,” said Standing. “We think things happen TO us, but they don't. We get to choose -- every minute of every day.
“No, we can't always go back and fix what we broke or get what someone didn't give us, but we can choose to live now, today, the way we'd like to be remembered,” she continued. “We always have a choice. We can re-write our stories.”
