Sophomore leads the Way in Stevenson win

Sophomore Sophia Way scored a career-high 23 points, going 10 of 11 from the foul line, and Stevenson's girls basketball team pulled away from host Mundelein in the fourth quarter to capture a 64-49 win in the teams' North Suburban Conference Lake Division finale Saturday night.

Stevenson (17-8, 10-2) also received 15 points from Alex Elzinga, 12 from Taylor Buford and 10 from Kari Moffat. Freshman guard Jessica Burke received her first varsity start in place of Paige Freudenberg (illness), scored 2 points and played all 32 minutes.

"She did a lot of good things for us," said coach Tom Dineen, whose Patriots won for the eighth time in their last nine games.

Maggie Mahar scored 20 of her team-high 22 points in the first half for Mundelein (8-17, 4-8). The sophomore sank four 3-pointers.

"We presented a challenge to our kids at halftime," said Dineen, whose squad led only 31-27 at the break and 44-39 after three quarters.

Natalie Busscher added 10 points for the Mustangs.

Grayslake North 66, Crystal Lake Central 40: On Senior Day,Emily Dugan continued her hot shooting, as the host Knights won again in Fox Valley Conference Fox play to clinch a share of the division championship.

Dugan scored a game-high 16 points, sinking four 3-pointers. The sophomore guard has made 11 3s in her last two games.

Grayslake North (24-2, 11-0) also received 14 points from Brittney Thibeaux, 13 from Joanna Guhl and 9 from Kendall Detweiler (three 3-pointers).

Before the game, the Knights honored seniors Guhl, Jordyn Bowen, Shyanne Ludwick and Emily Stinner, who hit a pair of 3-pointers.

Grayslake North visits Grayslake Central on Tuesday night. A win will give the Knights the outright FVC Fox title.

Carmel 57, Nazareth 55: Kathleen Felicelli led three players in double figures with 16 points, as the visiting Corsairs won the East Suburban Catholic Conference game.

Carmel (19-8, 4-3) won for the eighth time in nine games. Kayla Quinn and Claire Ogrinc added 13 and 12 points, respectively, for the Corsairs. Cassidy Kloss chipped in 8 points.

Libertyville 40, Warren 26: Olivia Mayer scored 16 points and dished out 4 assists, as the visiting Wildcats captured the North Suburban Lake Division finale.

Dana Kym added 10 points and 7 rebounds for Libertyville (13-13, 7-5), which won its fourth in a row to reach the .500 mark for the first time this season. Haley Hoeksel added 8 points.

Warren (14-12, 7-5) received 7 points and 6 rebounds from Alyssa Phillips and 7 points and 5 rebounds from Cassie Christie.
