New charges against Elgin man accused of burglarizing cop home

text size: AAA

An Elgin man already facing charges for burglarizing a local police officer's home has been charged in two earlier burglaries.

Ryan Hukill, 21, of the 500 block of Red Tail Ridge, was charged recently with burglaries of two other Elgin homes, including one on his own block. In a June

burglary, police say a large plasma television was stolen from a garage on the 500 block of Barn Swallow Way. In November, video gaming equipment, a digital camera, a watch and other household items were taken from a home on the 500 block of Red Tail Ridge.

Detectives, acting on a search warrant, later found the items at Hukill's home.

Last month, Hukill was charged with felony burglary after an Elgin police officer caught the man burglarizing his home, when the police officer came home for a dinner break.

Hukill was issued two separate warrants on the new charges with a bond amount of $40,000 each, which means he needs $8,000 to get out of jail on those charges.

But he remains behind bars on the $75,000 bond related to the burglary of the officer's home.
